Balance

With weekly mileage creeping upwards and wedding plans underway, sleep deprivation has been a very real side effect.

We’ve just finished our biggest training week yet – 13 ½ hours – which breaks down to: 112 miles biking, 20 miles running, and 4.3 miles (7700 yards) swimming.

Balance is going to be tough, but I know it’s what needs to happen for us to survive and thrive in the next 4-6 months. Just like with our jobs, we’re both trying to find a “workflow” that will 1.) keep us “on point” with training, 2.) keep us fueled – physically, mentally, emotionally, and 3.) keep us sane. (ha, ha, ha….)

With balance sometimes comes compromise and innovation.

For example:

  • Waking at 5:00 a.m. and completing a 30-mile bike ride before work
    • Similarly: Zach biking to work (multitasking at its finest! A workout and commute in one!)
  • Eating frozen and canned food more often then we’d like – because convenience and speed trumps all when you’re a hungry triathlete!
  • Addressing and stuffing save-the-dates while on the train commuting to work
We’ll continue to “iron out the wrinkles” and re-balance as necessary, as I am guessing this is going to be an ongoing calibration process!
