IRONMAN 70.3 Connecticut - June 2, 2019 - Katie's Race Report

This is the only IRONMAN-branded race where I get to sleep in my bed the night before. :-) It’s always nice to be racing on “home court” - which has the added benefit of previewing of the course well-before the race.   RACE MORNING Fog laid thick over Lake Quassapaug, resulting in a 30-minute delayed start. About 25 minutes later, they announced we would be swimming a course shortened to 750 yards since the fog had barely lifted. My swim has gotten stronger these last few years - to the point where I’m coming out in the top 10-15% in my AG - so I was less than thrilled about this announcement, but it was a good call due to visibility issues. Foggy morning Sunscreen + half-awake = sounds about right for a race morning. SWIM This was by far the most disorganized rolling swim start I have ever experienced. It was nothing like other races, where you’re corralled into a start chute of 6-8 people starting at a time, with “beeps” to count you down. I’...
