NYC Triathlon 2014
NYC Triathlon (Katie only) – New York City - August 3, 2014 (Olympic distance)
Amazing crowd support and organization. I personally could not have asked for a better race. I was well-rested, felt strong, and stayed focused throughout. I raced as hard and fast as I could, and because I felt great, I decided to “cheese it up” for all the race photographers. (hey – why not?)
Things to remember (or not…):
- Watching the pros jump off the swim barge and just FLY down the river
- Watching a dead eel float by while waiting to start our swim….gross!!!
- Tripping and nearly falling on my face out of the swim exit while trying to pass people who were walking to T1 (this is a RACE, people!)
- A very rainy bike ride
- Taking a quick “inventory” at T2 and being pleasantly surprised that there were only about a dozen bikes racked for my age group, meaning the rest were behind me
- Looking at my watch out of T2 and realizing I’d finish sub-3 hours!
- Playing “leapfrog” during the run in Central Park with a 60-year old gentleman who cheered on each of his fellow runners – loved the positivity! (“Looking good, Brooklyn!”)
- The scramble to get my bike fixed and back in-my-hands before race day, after Zach was rear-ended with the bikes on back of the car.
Moments before I nearly bit the dust
The rain finally stopped!
Fresh out of T2 and feeling good
Cheesing it up for the cameras
2:38:34 finish - 21st out of 209 in the Female 25-29 division
After finishing, I visited the race results booth and was shocked to discover that I placed in the top 10% in my age group. 21st out of 209 in the 25-29 year old females! In November I received an email stating that my finish in this race qualified me to compete in the 2015 USA Triathlon Olympic-Distance National Championships.
